Test Grade Calculator
This calculator is designed to help quickly convert quiz or test results into percentages, letter grades, and GPA values using two common grading scales. By entering the total number of questions on a quiz and the number of questions answered correctly, the calculator will automatically determine the score and assign the appropriate grade.
How it works
-
Inputs
-
Total Questions — the number of items on the quiz or test.
-
Correct Answers — the number of items answered correctly.
-
-
Outputs
-
Score (%) — the percentage of correct answers.
-
Letter Grade (10-point scale) — based on the standard breakdown (A = 90–100, B = 80–89, etc.).
-
GPA (10-point scale) — 4.0 for an A, 3.0 for a B, down to 0.0 for an F.
-
Letter Grade (Plus/Minus scale) — more detailed ranges used in many universities (e.g., A = 93–100, A- = 90–92, B+ = 87–89, etc.).
-
GPA (Plus/Minus scale) — GPA points matched to the plus/minus scale.
-
Lookup tables
The calculator uses two lookup tables on the Lookups sheet:
-
10-Point Scale: A = 90+, B = 80+, C = 70+, D = 60+, F = below 60.
-
Plus/Minus Scale: Breaks each letter grade into finer ranges (A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc.) with corresponding GPA values.
Both tables are editable, so you can adjust thresholds or GPA points to match your school’s grading policy. The calculator will automatically use the updated values.
